Sing the Musicals – De Montfort Hall Review

A must see for theatre lovers

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you love musical theatre, Sing the Musicals is an absolute must-see. There’s something euphoric about belting out your favorite theatre songs inside a theatre, surrounded by a room full of fellow theatre lovers. The atmosphere was electric from the very first note, with the audience fully embracing the chance to sing and dance along without fear or judgement.

The vocals were fantastic, and the best part? No need to memorise lyrics—everything was projected onto a big screen, making it effortless to join in (though anybody that knows me knows that I didn’t need those lyrics!). The setlist was a dream for musical fans, covering a huge range of shows, including Hamilton, Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia. Les Mis, Oliver, The Greatest Showman, Chicago, Bugsy Malone, and even some Disney classics.

If there’s one small critique, it would be to swap out some of the Disney songs (and that’s coming from a huge Disney fan!) in favour of more recent theatre hits like Dear Evan Hansen, Six, and Heathers. And let’s talk about Grease—the audience’s screams for it in the encore were undeniable. While Bohemian Rhapsody from We Will Rock You was an awesome finale, a Grease megamix would have been the cherry on top!

It seems the family in front of us had the same idea as I did, because they were already searching for tickets for the Nottingham performance in July!

Theatre kids and theatre kids at heart, this is a show you won’t want to miss and you’ll want to be quick grabbing tickets as the huge De Montfort Hall was a sold out phenomenon. Everybody was up and dancing the whole night, it was such a crowd pleaser of a show. The buzz at the interval and the end of the show waiting for a meet and greet photo was contagious.
