Top 5 Autumn Travel Destinations

Thursday 11th October 2018 – Day 11 of Blogtober

Today, I thought I’d talk you through some of the best travel destinations during Autumn.

There’s no denying that Autumn can be a beautiful season, but in the same way, it can be dreary and depressing. Some places just don’t do Autumn as good as others.

Meanwhile, there are some places that just do Autumn and show it off in all its glory. I’ve listed my Top 5 that I think really would do Autumn beautifully.

I have chosen these destinations for different reasons it might be because of the change of atmosphere in the city, it might be to escape a dreary Autumn, or it might be because it truly is somewhere that looks like the definition of Autumn straight out of a fairytale.

Here are the Best Autumn Travel Destinations, according to me!

1. Canada

Who else’s day would be 1,000 times better if they woke up to the views of Lake Louise?

Canada is a very popular tourist destination in Autumn, or as Alex puts it “Canada turns up in Autumn.”

The foliage is the most spectacular on the eastern regions near to British Colombia and Alberta, so they’re definitely on my list.

I’d love to go during the Autumn and see the reds and browns and maybe jump on a few crunchy leaves. I’d also like to see the Niagara Falls and take part in a whale watching excursion.

2. Amsterdam

We visited Amsterdam during the winter and it really was beautiful. Though, when you google photos of Amsterdam in Autumn, it looks beautiful then too. I think it really is one of those places that can do any season.

With rows and rows of trees lining the canals, come Autumn time, the colours would be absolutely magical. Just imagine walking along a blanket of red and yellow leaves.

They also had so many beautiful cafes that overlook the canals, so snacking on something warm whilst being able to sit out in the ‘not as freezing as winter‘ temperatures would be idyllic.

I’ve also heard Amsterdam is one of the best places in Europe to celebrate Halloween, so I think I need to find this out for myself!

3. Lisbon

Lisbon was such a great destination choice in October. The best thing about teaching is the school holidays and October is generally a great time to get a good deal to escape the dreary nights.

Lisbon had gorgeous daytime weather with plenty of sunshine, but the city seemed a lot less rammed and quieter than what I envisage it would be during the height of the summer.

It also meant we were able to do lots of walking without sweating. Plus, who doesn’t want a few blue skies to escape the darker nights in the UK?

4. Iceland

Is there anything better than going to Iceland knowing that it’s cheaper? The same fresh air, the same freedom, the same glorious scenery. An Autumn escape to Iceland sounds right up my street.

Plus, it is also far more likely to see the Northern Lights which is right near the top of my bucket list. (Just after New York that I was going to add to this post because let’s face it, it’d be beautiful in Autumn, but I didn’t want to keep rambling on about New York!)

5. Benidorm

Now, I wouldn’t be being fair if I didn’t include Benidorm in this, would I?

Tourists flock to Benidorm during the Autumn/Winter months and it’s no cryptic puzzle to work out why. With extended daylight hours and temperatures that can hit the comfortable 20’s, it’s a perfect destination to get some autumn/winter sun.

Unlike other beach resorts, Benidorm doesn’t close. You might find fewer bars and restaurants open than summer, but, in true Benidorm fashion, the party must go on. You won’t be short of things to do means all of the family will be kept entertained.

What’s on your Autumn Travel Destinations list?

Hasta luego,
