If there’s one thing I love about the switch of the seasons, it’s the ditching of the jeans and the jumper and stepping out in floaty dresses, jumpsuits and mini-skirts. I love Spring. I love Spring fashion. I love Spring weather. It’s that reminder that summer is on its way and new beginnings are on the horizon. Flashback to around February time, I was scrolling through Instagram saving all of these beautiful Spring inspired outfits and I noticed one thing that stood out more than anything else: neutrals.

Whilst last year I was all about the flash of colour, leaning towards yellows and greens, this year, I’ve stripped it all back and opted for the once-boring hue. Spring 2019 is all about neutrals. The absolute key to making neutrals work is to switch it up with textures and accessories to bring the outfit to life. Neutrals can and will look sophisticated, chic and expensive.

This Spring 2019, I was challenged to create a Spring Look Book using a £100 gift card at Primark, kindly given to me by Fosse. Here is your Spring Styles for your looks this 2019:

Polka Dot Dress

The polka dot dress was one that I was unsure about in the shop. I loved it off, but I just wasn’t sure that it would suit me. However, I’m so glad I went for it. The polka dot pattern is one that continues to roll back in and out of fashion, and vogue for the matter. Last year the revival of polka dots came back around and it doesn’t appear to be exiting any time soon. The once-outdated polka dot trend has been given a new life and it’s definitely filling up my Instagram inspiration board more and more.

A polka dot dress, like this one from Primark, requires little styling which is why it’s such a staple piece for 2019. It’s an easy to wear dress that you can throw on, whilst looking like you’ve made such a big effort, it’s such a winner. I paired it with the battered straw bag, brown sandals and cream cardigan, all from Primark. This entire outfit was less than £30. I love that I feel like a neutral Minnie Mouse in this dress, it’s almost like a subtle way to add the Disney fashion trend whilst still ticking the neutral trend box.

Palm Print Jumpsuit

I think it’s safe to say that there is a jumpsuit now that works for everybody. With a range of styles, patterns and fits, the jumpsuit has really come into its own recently. So much so, that even I am able to find one that works for me.

Stepping into Spring 2019, the jumpsuit is even more on trend than it was just a few years ago. Walking down the high street, the jumpsuits are everywhere to be seen, no longer restrained to vintage stores, it’s a staple piece that requires little effort. There’s no need to worry about pairing or matching, it’s a ready made solid outfit.

The palm print jumpsuit would be a great festival outfit, paired with a battered straw hat, brown sandals or wedges and the battered straw bag. The palm print jumpsuit, priced at £15, goes really well with the sandals and straw bag, topped off with the ombre oversized sunglasses priced at just £3.  It comes with a chic palm print pattern tie up belt too which is perfect for sculpting the waist line.

Denim Belted Skirt

I wanted to pick up a piece that I knew would be timeless, one that I can take photos of in America and still think it looks acceptable in ten, fifteen, twenty years. Although looks can be bang on trend for this season, I know that turning the corner into Summer 2019, or Spring 2020 the trend may have long gone. I may be wearing my polka dot dress now and loving it, but will I feel the same in a decade? I adore wearing bits and pieces that are in fashion, but I’m also very conscious to always pick up something that will weather the fashion storm, and that’s exactly what a denim skirt and a white shirt will do.

The last time I went to America, I stocked up on clothes that were in fashion for that summer, but now I look back and cringe. I cringe uploading a photo by the Hollywood sign with a print vest top that has frills at the bottom paired with shoes with a silver chain, (where even more tragically one of them had fell off somewhere in San Francisco). But, I know that a white shirt and a denim skirt paired with my own Tommy Hilfiger trainers will always be a look. I’ll be wearing the denim skirt long after spring/summer 2019 has come to an end. I’m aware that in Summer 2029, I might be cringing at the white shirt tucked in or wondering why I’m wearing the skirt so high, but it’s a safer option! 

The white shirt with a tie up bottom is priced at £8 and the denim skirt priced at £12 is a classic ensemble for spring 2019. I’m a big advocate for boosting up high street clothes by pairing it with a staple designer piece, so I’m pairing my denim skirt and white shirt from Primark with my Tommy Hilfiger Chunky Mixed Textile Trainers (£115).

Green Linen Trousers

Apparently, there was still that pull towards green for me, perhaps it’s the fact that I’ll definitely still be wearing my green trousers from Spring Styles 2018 or perhaps it’s because I know that linen trousers are just so comfortable and breezy as the weather turns up a notch.

I remember vaguely having a pair of black linen trousers that I used to wear for work at Tesco about nine years ago, wow let me take one moment, doesn’t that sound old?! and I absolutely loved them. They always looked nice with the white shirt and more importantly, they were comfortable and practical. I’m sounding even older. But, ever since then I’ve never really took much notice to linen. I either never found any that suited me or there just wasn’t much of it around, and I’m sure it’s the latter.

When I found these green linen trousers from Primark priced at £10, I knew I had to have them. The combination of my much loved old work linen trousers and the Spring Styles 2018 colour preference, whilst being toned down to a shade of neutral, it seemed a no brainer for Spring 2019.

Matching up with the same white shirt, sandals and straw bag, it’s a perfect outfit for a day exploring the city or wandering along the beach front before stopping off for a café con leche. It’s a comfortable yet effortlessly chic look that is perfect for spring time both in England and abroad.

I also picked up a few little bits and pieces like a Minnie Mouse luggage tag for America, a Stitch yellow t-shirt and a few basic vest tops to swap in and out with my denim skirt or a pair of Tommy Hilfiger shorts I have my eye on.
