Compulsory Travel Document if travelling to Spain from July 1st 2020 through COVID 19

Well hello again, it’s me with some breaking news!

For daily Spain photos Please follow me on Instagram and for more spain information and articles sign up to my email notifications by adding your email address in the box below this article!

Here I was happily writing about our Patreon link when I find out that from now on, it’s compulsory to fill in a form prior to travelling to Spain by air.

All people traveling to Spain from July 1st 2020 from other countries, regardless of their nationality, age or any other consideration must fill out a FCS form regarding their travel to Spain.

Each form is personal and non-transferable and is for a single trip.

This blog is entirely self funded and relies heavily on donations and tips from those who find the information useful. Thank you in advance.

Tips

Thank you for your generous donation

£1.00

From July 1st, 2020, if you fly to Spain from any other countries, you must fill out and sign the FCS form associated with your trip. This form must be completed by every single passenger. If the passenger is a minor or a dependent/disabled, the form can be filled in by their parent/guardian or carer who will be responsible for the accuracy of the information.

To create your individual FCS form, fill in all the fields on https://www.spth.gob.es/create

You will receive an e-mail to your email address, with a security code and a link to create the form associated with your trip to get your QR code. You cannot finish the form until 48 hours before you fly.

You will receive the QR code associated with your trip, which you must carry with you on your mobile phone or you can print it on paper to pass the airport sanitary control. You can do this form for somebody else if they don’t have an email address and print it off for them so they can go through the airport control.

You will need to fill in your full name, passport number, flight number, arrival date and email address.

Each person needs their own QR code. If you are travelling with your family you will each need one. If you are a family of four, you will need to fill it in four times with four separate codes. Each linked to each passport.

Once you have completed it correctly, you can sign it (from 48 hours before your arrival in Spain) and obtain your QR code associated with your trip.

To fill out the Public Health Form, you need to have provide:

  1. Identity document number (passport, ID, etc.)
  2. Information about your flight
  3. Information about your stay in Spain
  4. Email address

The form can be started at any time from when you have the full details of your flight, filling in the data you want and saving it to continue later. You can only complete the health questions, and sign the completed form 48 hours before your arrival in Spain. It is not recommended to start this form if you aren’t flying within a month.

Spain announces new form to fill in
This is a screenshot of the form which you need to fill in

Regarding the address of stay, only the city and the autonomous community are mandatory. Therefore, by filling in these two details, the QR code can be obtained.

It is essential that you fill in this form and keep a digital copy or print it out before travelling to Spain. You must not travel if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with a positive case of COVID19 in the past 14 days.

It would also be a good idea to fill in the passenger locator form should you require it. The passenger locator form is essential if travelling by ferry or car: https://www.iata.org/contentassets/07a397c1164d45e794c22949c75a95ac/public-health-passenger-locator-form.pdf

Ryanair have shared this to their website with the same link I have of where to fill the health form in. You will also fill in another form at arrivals according to this screenshot.

What yOU need to do before flying to Spain

This has been announced today and will take effect from now, so do make sure you fill in the form and get the QR to your phone. There seems to be a big influx of the use of QR’s including menus so familiarise yourself with how to use them prior. They are what the airport scan if you’ve ever used a digital boarding pass.

What happens if I’m getting an error message on my QR or any other problems completing?

Don’t worry! These things have teething problems. If things don’t go right and you’re not able to complete the form then you will be given a form to complete at customs. Having the QR code speeds the process up and ensures that everyone can carry on through just scanning. If there are problems, you will be able to sort them out at arrivals.

Hope this helps,

      1. You don’t need this form for the ferries or car this is only by land. I would recommend filling in a passenger locator form about your onward journey and contacting your ferry to ask if there’s anything you’ll be provided to show

      1. Then do it online and use your email address or a relatives email address and get them to print it off for you. Failing that, they are handing out paper ones at arrivals at the moment for those who don’t have it completed.

Do you have to fill this form in aswell as the locator form which appears to be the same?

      Like

      1. The passenger locator should only be if you’re not travelling by plane where you can do the QR. But some people are filling it in too just in case. It’s completely up to you. If there’s anything missing they are giving it at arrivals but it causes delays

    4. Thanks, wish they would make things easier, I can’t complete the form asking me which city I live in and my seat number, I don’t live in a city and I haven’t got a seat number, hope I don’t get refused I’m going on Monday

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I do believe that’s partly through lack of cultural awareness and language barriers, if you put your county it still works. You should have a seat number because this for sitting on a plane, so when you’ve checked in your airline will provide you with your seat number. In any sense, you won’t get refused you’ll just be held back to complete a paper version of this form

Does this form still have to be completed if you are driving to Spain using EUROTUNNEL
As it only has flight number all you get with eurotunnel is a booking reference
Also I have printed off the French health declaration

Made sure had all forms which we thought we needed
And didn’t ask for anything at french control at tunnel then get to french/Spanish border and again nothing not a sole there
So form I think are only for flyers
Just thought I let you know but all ways handy to have at the ready 😃

      1. Hi, I said this was only for flyers as drivers aren’t being asked anything. You will need to fill a form in to return to the U.K. though and on it you have to fill that you travelled by eurotunnel. But in this post I specifically say it’s for flyers.

Hi lauren, I eventually managed to fill in the form online up to the part that then says can only be completed 48 hrs before but i thought you could print off the form and fill it all in and then take it with you but did not see anywhere that I could do that, does it then mean it can be printed off once the final part is filled in then it can be printed off to take with you. Any help on this would be great thanks x

    1. Yes so like your boarding pass on plane you will receive another email with health questions 48 hours before departure which is when you will answer them and then receive your actual QR code and have the opportunity to print it off x

    1. My understanding is you need to provide where you are staying in Spain. It could be that the site is having delays due to massive traffic. Have you received an email from them after doing the first step? You can’t finish the process until 48 hours before you fly

Thanks for this site. My wife is has Spanish residency but has been stuck in Vietnam since March. She has flight to Madrid today through Bangkok and Paris. She filled out the form on line and got confirmation that she is registered but it won’t let her fill in the travel history. It keeps saying that you have to wait until 48 hours before but her flight is today from Vietnam and tomorrow morning from Paris to Madrid. Have you heard of this problem and do you think that they will let her in without the QR code or at least have a chance to explain it at the health control in Madrid? Thank you.

    1. Oh no! Sorry to hear! She won’t have a problem, at the arrivals they will allow her to fill it in it just means she will have longer in the airport sorting it out.
